Our School Sport Ambassadors believe in the power of PE and sport to build a brighter future for young people.
School Sport Ambassadors - Darren Campbell, Gail Emms and Jason Gardener
Darren Campbell MBE

Darren Campbell MBEDarren was a world class athletic champion. He competed in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. Amongst his achievements, Darren won Olympic silver medal at the Sydney 2000 Games; a bronze medal (200m) at the Manchester Commonwealth Games and a gold as part of the 4x100m relay, beating the American team who were the favourites on the day in Athens 2004.

Darren is the ambassador for Sky Academy and Sky Sports Living for Sport, a project targeted young people aged 11-16 who are at risk of opting out of school life, either through poor attendance or lack of confidence.

Hannah Cockroft MBE
Hannah Cockroft MBEHannah is a wheelchair athlete in the T34 classification. Having previously competed at the School Games when she was younger, Hannah holds the Paralympic and world records for the 100m, 200m and 400m T34 categories. Competing for Great Britain, she has won five Paralympic gold medals and seven world championship gold medals.

Hannah has been an Ambassador for the Youth Sport Trust since 2013, and is a supporter of our residential camps for young people, where she has inspired young people by sharing her experiences. She also featured in our 20th anniversary film.

Gail Emms MBE
Gail Emms MBE

Gail and mixed doubles partner Nathan Robertson are the most successful Great Britain badminton partnership ever. In 2004 they reached the final of the Olympic Games in Athens, narrowly losing to the Chinese pair but taking the silver medal. Gail then went on to win gold with Nathan in the World Championships in 2006, gold in the Commonwealth Games in 2006 and European titles both in the mixed and ladies doubles.

A former junior International, Gail made the successful transition to senior level, winning nine National titles, the All England and 68 caps for her country along the way. Gail retired from professional sport after the 2008 Olympic Games.

Jason Gardener MBE
Jason Gardener MBEJason Gardener is one of the UK's all time great sprinters. He achieved one of his ultimate ambitions at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games by winning gold in the 4x100m relay and earlier that year he became World Indoor Champion over 60m. He was also a member of the very select sub-10 second club for 100m with a personal best of 9.98 seconds.

Jason has a BSc Honours degree in Media and Sociology. He was awarded an MBE for services to athletics and has been made a Freeman of the city of Bath. Jason is a Non-Executive Director on the board of UK athletics and has been advising and coaching elite athletes and sports teams since retiring from world-class athletics.

Jason is a Youth Sport Trust Ambassador, regularly attending our conferences and camps. He plays an active role in National School Sport Week, visiting schools across the UK to inspire children to take part in sport and has also encouraged youngsters up and down the country to join in the School Games.

Victoria Pendleton CBE
Victoria Pendleton CBEVictoria is Britain's most successful female Olympian and one of our highest profile sportswomen.

Victoria dominated the track cycling sprint events for several years, winning Gold at Beijing 2008 and Gold and Silver at the London 2012 Olympic Games. During her career she also won nine World Championships, and Commonwealth and European titles. 

Victoria is a Youth Sport Trust Girls Active ambassador. Girls Active seeks to tackle the relatively lower levels of participation by girls in PE and sport, and seeks to get 100,000 girls more active by 2018.

Kimberly Wyatt

Kimberly WyattGrammy nominated artist Kimberly Wyatt has sold over 55 million records worldwide. She has reached pop success all over the world touring with one of the biggest selling girl groups of all time, the Pussycat Dolls.

Kimberly is extremely passionate about talking to young people who lack the confidence to get active. Because her aspirations have such a natural fit with the work of the Youth Sport Trust, Kimberly became one of he Youth Sport Trust’s School Sport Ambassadors at the end of 2015.

Kimberly will continue to work with us to promote physical activity, particularly within primary schools, to encourage more young people to get active.

Dan Freedman

Dan FreedmanDan grew up wanting to be a professional footballer. That didn't happen. But he went on to become a top sports journalist, personally interviewing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, David Beckham and Sir Alex Ferguson.

He uses his passion and knowledge of sport to write the hugely popular series of Jamie Johnson football novels, recommended by Steven Gerrard and Gary Lineker and described as 'pure joy' by The Times. When he is not writing, Dan delivers talks and workshops for schools, encouraging people to go for their goals. He still plays sport whenever he can.

Sophie Radcliffe

Sophie is an adventurer, endurance athlete, blogger and speaker. She believes everyone has the capacity to achieve something extraordinary. Sophie is the only person to have climbedSophie Radcliffe the highest mountains in the eight Alpine countries and cycled between them. She has  cycled from London to Paris in 24 hours on nine occasions, raced coast to coast across the USA on a bike, completed 100km ultra-marathons, and is a two-time Ironman finisher.
