We are working with partners across the education and sport landscape to deliver targeted interventions to provide all young people with the opportunity to receive leadership training.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) Leadership Training

Using the expertise of YST international we have worked with three counties in 2017 to deliver leadership training for young people aged 12-15, who collectively speak over 20 different languages.

The events have demonstrated that sport is an international language, able to bring individuals and communities together, and through developing leadership skills these young people have been given the confidence to become role models and leaders in their school.

The event today has changed my views on leadership - I did not have the confidence to speak in front of others before today. It was great to meet so many other students who shared the same feelings. I am now really looking forward to getting involved in some volunteering

Future Sport Leaders

We are working with Sporting Equals to actively support more young people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities to take on decision making roles within sport. 

80 young people applied to attend a national Future Sport Leaders event in Manchester on 10 February. Opened by Jason Gardner, the event provided inspiration, motivation and the opportunity for attendees to develop their communication and influencing skills. 

Future Sport Leaders aims to:

  • secure a pathway for this group of young people to actively contribute in school and community sport decision making processes

  •  inspire them to retain their active involvement in sports management and governance into adulthood

I cannot put in to words the energy I felt surrounding the minibus on the way home and that was just seven young leaders.

I felt it was only my area that was challenging before the event but I saw people from areas like mine, with street knowledge like me being successful. They are good people and I want to be successful just like them.

At my school I became a leader because when I look around all the leaders were white and mainly boys so I personally wanted to change that.
